My English background and teaching experience contributed to me securing a job at Hong Kong Branch of Daekyo Co Ltd, an internationally renowned educational company, upon graduation. I was placed in charge of teaching English reading and writing courses to groups of children aged 3 to 14. I integrated personalized instruction with synthetic phonics in class. I prepared an individualized learning plan based on how students learned, what they already knew, and what their skills and interests were. I implemented in-class activities like mini-games, story-telling and singing songs resulting in increased student motivation. I am an approved instructor in teaching synthetic phonics, and I was able to successfully teach about 100 children to read and write. Also, I researched reading and English learning materials designed by renowned educational institutions like Oxford University. I modified the materials according to my students’ needs and the English curriculum in Hong Kong, resulting in an improvement of my students’ grades. For example, some of my students originally failed in exams but improved to a B+ or even an A-. I have experience teaching special needs students. I coordinated with parents to successfully assess and diagnose some students who were suspected of being dyslexic. I learned how to use multi-sensory approaches to help SEN students by attending classroom-based continuing professional development (CPD) courses on counselling SEN students. I developed my own notetaking method where I highlighted each syllable with a different colour—this helped SEN students develop their phonemic awareness. I also worked with parents to provide SEN students with one-on-one support, for example, teaching parents how to practice spelling with their child through sand-play therapy. I could plan and organize games as well as teach the following programs to young children aged 7 months to 10 years old: · Cambridge English Test: YLE Starters preparation course · Oxford Reading Tree playgroup · English Phonics course, Grammar and Reading course · JEI and Eye Level English and Mathematics course
